Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited US President Joe Biden for dinner. Both the leaders will meet at PM Modi's residence located on Lok Kalyan Marg at 7.30 pm on Friday (September 8). Joe Biden will reach India in the evening to attend the G-20 conference and after that will have dinner with PM Modi. Both the leaders also have a bilateral meeting today.
This is Joe Biden's first visit to India after becoming the President of America. In the year 2020, former President Donald Trump came to India. This will be the second special dinner of Joe Biden and PM Modi. Three months before this, during the state visit of Prime Minister Modi, Joe Biden had organized a special dinner for him at the White House. During the bilateral talks between the two leaders, emphasis is likely to be laid on further strengthening the India-US comprehensive global and strategic partnership.
The two leaders are expected to review ongoing bilateral cooperation in areas such as clean energy, trade, high-technology, and defence. Along with this, they can also discuss how both the countries can contribute in tackling some serious challenges of the world. A source said that in the conversation between Prime Minister Modi and President Biden, emphasis is likely to be laid on reviewing the ongoing bilateral cooperation in various key areas including clean energy, defence and high technology.
Both sides can also discuss further liberalizing the visa system. Before President Biden left for India, White House Press Secretary Carine Jean-Pierre said, 'We appreciate Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership of the G-20 this year and we are committed to helping ensure that India hosts a successful conference this year.' In response to a question, she said, 'During Prime Minister Modi's visit here in June, the President (Biden) and the Prime Minister shared their determination to fulfill the common priorities at the summit.'
It is noteworthy that G20 member states represent approximately 85 per cent of global GDP, more than 75 per cent of global trade and nearly two-thirds of the world population. The G20 group includes Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, Britain, the US and the European Union (EU).
