Footbridge Collapse in Delhi’s Rupnagar Triggers Rescue Operation; Woman Dies

A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday morning in Rupnagar after an old iron footbridge over a drain in Block 3, near the local Mother Dairy outlet, suddenly collapsed. A woman who was crossing the bridge at the time fell into the drain and died.

According to officials from the Delhi Police, fire engines and emergency personnel were swiftly deployed to the site soon after the incident was reported. The Delhi Fire Service confirmed that it received a distress call regarding the collapse at around 9:30 am, following which multiple fire tenders were rushed to the location.

Rescue teams, including personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Police, and other emergency units, have been working continuously to locate the missing woman. Officials stated that she was on the bridge at the moment it gave way and fell into the ‘nala’ below, making the search operation particularly challenging.

Authorities have since cordoned off the area to prevent any further mishaps and to ensure that rescue efforts can proceed without obstruction. Local residents have been advised to avoid the vicinity as operations continue.

The exact cause of the bridge collapse remains unknown at this stage. Officials indicated that a thorough inspection of the structure and surrounding conditions will be carried out once the rescue mission concludes. Further details are awaited as the situation develops.
