External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar arrived in London on Tuesday to embark on a significant six-day visit aimed at bolstering bilateral cooperation between India, the United Kingdom (UK), and Ireland. This visit marks a crucial diplomatic effort to reaffirm India's friendly ties and enhance strategic partnerships across various sectors.
In a statement issued prior to his departure, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted the importance of Jaishankar's visit in renewing India's Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the UK. This partnership, spanning critical domains such as defence and security, trade and economy, health, education, and people-to-people ties, underscores the robustness of the bilateral relationship between the two nations.
During his stay in the UK, EAM Jaishankar is scheduled to engage in high-level discussions with his British counterpart, Foreign Secretary David Lammy, and other senior dignitaries. The agenda is expected to prominently feature the recently re-launched negotiations for the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA), pivotal to advancing economic collaboration amidst evolving global trade dynamics.
Amidst heightened global concerns, the visit will also address pressing security and foreign policy issues, with a particular focus on the UK's diplomatic efforts in navigating the Russia-Ukraine conflict towards sustainable peace.
