Encounter of Two Accused in Bahraich Violence Incident: Attempt to Flee to Nepal Foiled

In a significant development, two accused in the Bahraich violence case in Uttar Pradesh were neutralized in an encounter while allegedly attempting to flee to Nepal. The suspects, identified as Sarfaraz alias Rinku and Faheem, are the sons of the main accused, Abdul Hamid. Since the day of the violent incident, the police had been actively pursuing the accused. Today, their location was traced, leading to the encounter.

According to ADG Law and Order Amitabh Yash, while no casualty details have been confirmed yet, five other suspects have been apprehended. Initial reports indicate that a total of five individuals have been arrested, and two of them were injured in the encounter. The encounter took place near the Honda Basehari Canal, close to the Nepal border.

The two injured suspects were treated at the Nanpara Community Health Center, where the attending doctor confirmed that both were shot in the legs—one in the right leg and the other in the left leg. Notably, the bullets had not exited their bodies, leading to their referral to the district hospital for further treatment.

These suspects are reportedly involved in the murder of Ramgopal Mishra, who was killed during the Bahraich violence. Mishra was shot by these accused and their associates. Some videos from the incident have surfaced, showing four to five people on the terrace of Abdul Hamid’s house, where Ramgopal was later shot.

The violent incident occurred last Sunday evening in the Rehua Mansur village of the Hardi police station area, when Ramgopal Mishra was participating in a Durga idol immersion procession around 6 PM. As the procession passed through a particular community's locality in Maharajganj Bazaar, a verbal altercation between two groups escalated. It is alleged that stones were thrown from rooftops, causing panic in the crowd.

In the ensuing chaos, Ramgopal was shot from a rooftop, leading to his death. His murder sparked widespread unrest in the Maharajganj town, where furious protesters vandalized the homes of the accused and set several vehicles ablaze. The violence continued into the next day, prompting the deployment of additional police forces in the district. Even Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of the situation.

As of now, the situation has been brought under control, and peace has been restored in the region.
