Residents living near the Ramgarh firing range in Haryana's Panchkula district have been advised to remain indoors on May 31 as the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) prepares to carry out a high-power bomb test at the facility. The trial will be conducted by the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), one of DRDO's premier establishments responsible for testing and evaluating explosives, ammunition, and advanced weapon systems.
Local authorities have issued precautionary advisories to residents of villages and settlements located close to the testing range, urging them to stay inside their homes during the scheduled testing period. Officials have clarified that the exercise is a routine defence-related trial and stressed that there is no cause for concern among the public.
According to information shared by DRDO scientists, the test involves a powerful explosion capable of propelling bomb fragments up to 1.5 kilometres into the air. In view of the potential risk, authorities have designated an approximately two-kilometre radius around the impact zone as a splinter danger area. Strict monitoring and access restrictions will be enforced to prevent people from entering sensitive locations during the trial.
The administration has appealed to residents to cooperate fully with safety measures and avoid spreading or believing rumours regarding the test. Officials said all necessary precautions have been put in place to ensure public safety and the smooth conduct of the exercise.
The testing process will be supervised by senior officials of the Indian Air Force and carried out under stringent safety protocols. Authorities emphasised that such trials are essential for validating the performance and reliability of defence systems developed for national security.
In a communication addressed to the Panchkula Deputy Commissioner, TBRL Technology Director C. Sarkar requested that residents of Bhanu and Billa villages be specifically instructed to remain indoors while the test is underway. The advisory has also been extended to people residing in Asrewali, Naggal, Moginand, Kishangarh, TMV Colony, and areas falling under the Ramgarh Municipal Council.
Officials reiterated that the temporary restrictions are purely precautionary and are intended to safeguard nearby communities from any potential hazards arising from the trial. Residents have been urged to follow instructions issued by local authorities and avoid unnecessary movement in and around the designated danger zone until the testing activity is completed.
The upcoming test underscores DRDO's ongoing efforts to strengthen India's defence capabilities through rigorous testing and evaluation of advanced military technologies while maintaining strict safety standards for surrounding civilian populations.
