The national capital, New Delhi, witnessed a noticeable rise in minimum temperature on Saturday morning, just two days after light to moderate rainfall had brought a temporary dip in mercury levels. According to the India Meteorological Department, unsettled weather conditions are set to persist, with a yellow alert issued for possible rain and thunderstorms over the next two days.
Data from Safdarjung Observatory—the city’s primary weather station—showed that the minimum temperature settled at 25.9 degrees Celsius. This marks an increase of 3.1 degrees compared to the previous day and stands 1.2 degrees above the seasonal average. Similar upward trends in minimum temperatures were recorded across other monitoring stations in the capital.
Despite the rise in temperatures, residents are unlikely to experience prolonged dry weather. The IMD has forecast very light to light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds starting Sunday. Wind speeds are expected to range between 30 to 40 kilometres per hour, with gusts potentially reaching up to 50 kilometres per hour during storm activity.
The department further indicated that comparable weather conditions are likely to continue into Monday, keeping skies partly cloudy with intermittent rain spells. The forecast suggests a mix of humid conditions and brief relief from heat due to passing showers, typical of the transitional pre-monsoon phase.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms, particularly due to the risk of strong winds and lightning.
