Delhi Reels Under Dense Fog and Bone-Chilling Cold

On Tuesday, the residents of Delhi experienced yet another challenging morning as the city was enveloped in dense fog and bone-chilling cold. The adverse weather conditions not only affected the daily lives of the residents but also had a significant impact on flight and rail operations, causing inconvenience to thousands of passengers at the airport and railway stations.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the visibility at Palam (VIDP) and Safdarjung Airports in Delhi was recorded within 500 meters in the morning. Additionally, the IMD highlighted the presence of a fog patch over the northern and north-eastern states, contributing to low visibility in airports located in these regions. The attached Satellite Imagery indicated a layer of fog extending from Punjab to northeast India, covering states like Haryana, North MP, UP, Bihar, and West Bengal.

Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) bore the brunt of the weather conditions, with approximately 30 flights departing from the airport experiencing delays. Furthermore, 17 flights were canceled due to the low visibility caused by the dense fog. The airports in other states, including Varanasi, Agra, Gwalior, Jammu, Pathankot, Chandigarh, Gaya, Prayagraj, Tejpur, Agartala, Vijaywada, and Bagdogra, also faced severe visibility challenges, as per the IMD's visibility data.
The dense fog and consequential flight delays and cancellations resulted in significant challenges for passengers. Individuals at the airport reported long waiting times and disruptions to their travel plans. One passenger shared his experience, stating that his flight, originally scheduled to depart at 8:40 am, was rescheduled to 10:30 am, attributing the delay to adverse weather conditions, primarily fog.

The recurrence of dense fog and bone-chilling cold in Delhi has once again disrupted the normal functioning of the city. The impact on flight operations, with delays and cancellations, highlights the need for passengers to be prepared for such weather-related challenges during the winter season. As the weather conditions persist, it is crucial for authorities and transportation services to implement effective measures to minimize disruptions and provide timely information to passengers affected by such conditions.
