Delhi and its surrounding areas witnessed heavy rainfall on Friday morning, leading to a significant drop in temperature and a further cooling of the weather. The downpour brought relief from pollution as air quality showed signs of improvement. Cold winds swept through the city, adding to the wintry chill. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi, anticipating the impact of an active Western Disturbance from December 27 to 29.
The morning began with light drizzles in some parts of Delhi, which later transformed into heavy showers. The rains were accompanied by strong gusty winds, thunder, and lightning, making it a dramatic weather event. Neighboring cities in the NCR, including Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad, also reported rainfall, adding to the region’s wet and cold conditions.
The IMD predicts fog or moderate mist in the early hours of Friday, with cloudy skies and intermittent rain throughout the day. Gusty winds at speeds of 30-40 km/h are also expected, along with occasional lightning. The weather agency has projected that temperatures during this period will hover around a minimum of 6.8°C and a maximum of 20.4°C in Delhi.
The rain has brought much-needed respite to the capital and neighboring areas, improving air quality and adding a festive chill to the ongoing winter season. However, residents are advised to stay cautious of slippery roads and reduced visibility due to fog in the coming days.
