Delhi-NCR Experiences Heavy Rain, Cold Weather Persists, Yellow Alert Issued for 3 Days

Delhi and its surrounding areas witnessed heavy rainfall on Friday morning, leading to a significant drop in temperature and a further cooling of the weather. The downpour brought relief from pollution as air quality showed signs of improvement. Cold winds swept through the city, adding to the wintry chill. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi, anticipating the impact of an active Western Disturbance from December 27 to 29.

The morning began with light drizzles in some parts of Delhi, which later transformed into heavy showers. The rains were accompanied by strong gusty winds, thunder, and lightning, making it a dramatic weather event. Neighboring cities in the NCR, including Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad, also reported rainfall, adding to the region’s wet and cold conditions.

IMD Forecast: Rain, Thunderstorms, and Fog

The IMD predicts fog or moderate mist in the early hours of Friday, with cloudy skies and intermittent rain throughout the day. Gusty winds at speeds of 30-40 km/h are also expected, along with occasional lightning. The weather agency has projected that temperatures during this period will hover around a minimum of 6.8°C and a maximum of 20.4°C in Delhi.

Detailed Weather Outlook:

  • December 27: Fog or moderate mist is likely in the morning, with cloudy skies prevailing throughout the day. Light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, is expected, along with gusty winds at 30-40 km/h. By evening, light fog may reappear.
  • December 28: Most areas are expected to experience fog or light mist in the morning, with moderate fog in some locations. Cloudy skies will dominate the day, with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms likely. Nighttime may see light fog or mist returning.
  • December 29: Widespread moderate fog is predicted in the morning, with dense fog in isolated areas. Skies are expected to clear up during the day, but light fog may return by evening or night.

The rain has brought much-needed respite to the capital and neighboring areas, improving air quality and adding a festive chill to the ongoing winter season. However, residents are advised to stay cautious of slippery roads and reduced visibility due to fog in the coming days.
