Actor Rajpal Yadav has suffered a major legal setback after the Delhi High Court upheld his conviction in a cheque bounce case, requiring him to serve a three-month jail sentence. The actor, who had been granted bail on March 18, 2026, will now have to undergo the imprisonment ordered by the trial court unless further legal relief is obtained.
According to the court's order, Rajpal Yadav has been sentenced to three months' imprisonment in connection with seven cheque bounce cases. The High Court directed that all the sentences will run concurrently, meaning the actor will serve a total of three months in jail rather than separate terms for each case. However, if he fails to pay the fines imposed by the court, his imprisonment could be extended to six months.
The court also imposed a financial penalty of Rs 1.05 crore in each case, taking the total fine across all seven cases to Rs 7.35 crore. Out of the amount, Rs 1.0475 crore in each case will be paid as compensation to the complainant, while Rs 25,000 in each case will be deposited with the State.
Rajpal Yadav, known for his comic performances and recently seen in films such as Bhooth Bangla and Welcome To The Jungle, has previously spoken publicly about his time in Tihar Jail. Reflecting on his experience, the actor said that many inmates deserve a second chance and urged Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to consider reforms for prisoners who have made genuine mistakes.
"I would like to request Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to do something about some of the people there, as one mistake may be overlooked. At the same time, I have the utmost respect for the judiciary and its judgment. But if something can be done for deserving inmates, it would be a positive step," Rajpal had said in an interview.
When asked about his daily routine in Tihar Jail, the actor refrained from sharing many personal details but praised the prison administration. He described the facility as having a long history and stated that he had no complaints about the food served there, saying the quality of meals was satisfactory.
The High Court's decision marks another chapter in the long-running legal proceedings against the actor. With the conviction now upheld, Rajpal Yadav faces both imprisonment and a substantial financial liability, unless any further legal remedies alter the outcome of the case.
