Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Srinagar on Thursday morning, marking his first visit to the Valley since India's Operation Sindoor, a strategic military strike targeting terror installations in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
Accompanied by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Mr. Singh's visit focused on assessing the security situation and the readiness of the Indian Armed Forces amidst heightened tensions with Pakistan. He conducted a thorough review at the Army's 15 Corps Headquarters and inspected remnants of Pakistani shells deployed in border areas.
In a poignant address to armed forces personnel, the Defence Minister paid homage to the brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the fight against terrorism. "I bow to the supreme sacrifice of our brave jawans and salute the valour of the injured soldiers. My thoughts are with the innocent civilians who lost their lives in Pahalgam," Mr. Singh remarked solemnly.
Describing Operation Sindoor as a significant milestone in India's anti-terrorism efforts, Rajnath Singh emphasized, "This operation underscores our unwavering commitment to combating terrorism. We will spare no effort in rooting out the menace of terrorism, and Pakistan must cease providing shelter to terrorists."
In a pointed remark, the Defence Minister also questioned the safety and responsibility surrounding Pakistan's nuclear arsenal.
Prime Minister Modi's Recent Statements
Earlier in the week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Punjab's Adampur air base, one of the locations targeted by Pakistan post-Operation Sindoor. Addressing the military personnel, PM Modi reiterated India's firm stance against terrorism, stating, "If there is another attack, India will respond decisively." He emphasized that Operation Sindoor reflects a new policy of swift and decisive action against state-sponsored terrorism.
