Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Odisha and Chhattisgarh of comprehensive assistance from the Centre in dealing with the impact of Cyclone Arnab. As rescue and relief operations continue, the deployment of disaster response teams and the proposed assessment by a central team underline the government's focus on providing timely support to affected people and strengthening relief efforts.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday held discussions with the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Odisha and Chhattisgarh to review the situation arising from Cyclone Arnab and assure them of all possible assistance from the Central government.
During his conversations with the state leaders, Shah reiterated the Centre's commitment to supporting the affected regions and helping minimise the difficulties faced by people as the disaster unfolds. The discussions focused on the immediate response to the cyclone and the need for coordinated efforts to address the challenges confronting the affected populations.
In a social media post, the Home Minister said that teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) had swung into action. The teams are carrying out rescue and relief operations on a war footing to respond to the emerging situation and provide assistance wherever required.
The deployment of these specialised disaster response teams is an important component of the emergency response, particularly in areas where severe weather conditions may disrupt normal life and create urgent requirements for evacuation, rescue and essential supplies. Coordination between central agencies and state administrations remains crucial to ensuring that relief reaches those in need without delay.
Shah also announced that an Inter-Ministerial Central Team would soon visit the affected states to assess the extent of the damage and determine what additional assistance may be necessary. The assessment is expected to help the Centre evaluate the situation on the ground and identify the support required to supplement ongoing relief measures.
The proposed visit will provide an opportunity to examine the impact of the cyclone and review the needs of the affected regions. Such assessments can play an important role in determining further assistance and facilitating coordination between the Centre and the concerned state governments.
Emphasising the government's commitment to disaster response, Shah said that the Central government stood firmly with the people and would extend the necessary support to address the crisis.
The response to Cyclone Arnab highlights the importance of cooperation between the Centre and state governments during natural disasters. While immediate rescue operations remain the priority, effective relief distribution, damage assessment and timely assistance will be essential to helping affected communities overcome the disruption.
As the situation develops, the coordination of disaster response agencies and state administrations will remain critical. The Centre's assurance of support, coupled with the proposed assessment by the Inter-Ministerial Central Team, is aimed at ensuring that the affected states receive assistance according to their needs.
The immediate priority will be to protect lives, provide relief to affected people and assess the scale of the damage so that further measures can be taken where necessary.
