Congress Leaders Disgruntled over Alliance Talks with AAP in Haryana

Several Congress leaders in Haryana are reportedly discontented over the party's inclination towards contesting elections in alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda is notably opposed to the idea, adding fuel to the dissent within the party ranks.

Sources indicate that many senior leaders within the Haryana Congress are not pleased with the prospect of an alliance with AAP. Additionally, speculations about ticket allocations have perturbed leaders aligned with the Hooda faction.

As of now, Congress has not released its first list of candidates. Currently, out of the 90-member Haryana Legislative Assembly, Congress holds 28 seats. Sources suggest that disagreements over seat-sharing with AAP are primarily brewing within the Congress itself.

Reports suggest that Hooda, along with several Congress MLAs, walked out of a party meeting amidst discussions about possibly denying tickets to some current legislators, leading to discontent within the Hooda camp.

Congress has formed a subcommittee to negotiate seat-sharing with AAP. Furthermore, the committee will decide on candidates for approximately two dozen seats where internal consensus has not been reached. Senior Congress MPs have reportedly met with this committee.

According to reports, Hooda is particularly displeased, especially since AAP is keen on fielding candidates in areas where his supporters are already established, such as in Pehowa, Kalayat, and Jind. Sources also indicate that Rahul Gandhi wishes to promote seat-sharing between Congress and AAP, underscoring unity within the INDIA group, but this move faces resistance from several party leaders.

Earlier, it was said that the Congress Central Election Committee, under the leadership of National President Mallikarjun Kharge, had stamped tickets for several current legislators in Haryana, but now, some names have been put on hold, according to the Indian Express citing sources. It is noteworthy that all these leaders are considered close to Hooda.
