The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has ignited a controversy by raising serious objections against Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh's upcoming project, "Sardaar Ji 3". The organization's stance comes in the wake of the recent tragic Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals, escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
In a formal communication addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, AICWA has demanded stringent actions against Dosanjh, highlighting his decision to cast Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in the film. The non-profit organization has called for an immediate suspension of all his social media accounts, removal of his songs and films from prominent platforms such as YouTube, Spotify, and JioSaavn, as well as OTT platforms. Additionally, AICWA has urged for a permanent ban on his live performances across India and a decree against his involvement in any governmental programs, events, or campaigns.
The film body further appealed to the Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to reject certifications for all future projects involving Diljit Dosanjh, emphasizing their stance on safeguarding national interests and dignity. A tweet from AICWA encapsulates their firm stance: "AICWA has also appealed to the Hon’ble Chairman of CBFC to reject certification of all future films involving Diljit Dosanjh and to boycott him completely from Indian cinema."
The controversy has garnered additional attention following criticism from prominent figures within the industry. Singer Mika Singh joined the chorus of dissent, publicly admonishing Dosanjh for his casting decision. Singh underscored the strained relations between India and Pakistan, urging responsible conduct from artists involved in cross-border collaborations.
Dosanjh's choice to feature Pakistani talent in "Sardaar Ji 3" has reignited debates concerning cultural exchange and national sensitivities amidst geopolitical tensions. As sentiments continue to escalate, the entertainment industry finds itself at a crossroads, balancing artistic expression with national sentiments.
The unfolding saga underscores the broader implications of cultural diplomacy in the entertainment realm, prompting introspection on the responsibilities that accompany artistic freedom in politically charged climates.
