The Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand resumed on Monday after weather conditions improved, bringing relief to pilgrims who had been temporarily stranded due to safety concerns. The pilgrimage had been suspended from the afternoon of September 26 through September 27 following a weather forecast indicating potentially difficult conditions. Authorities have now allowed the yatra to restart while continuing repair work on the damaged Kedarnath trekking route.
The Char Dham pilgrimage has resumed across Uttarakhand after an improvement in weather conditions. Garhwal Commissioner Anand Swarup said that necessary directions have been issued to the concerned district magistrates to facilitate the safe resumption of the pilgrimage.
The temporary suspension had been imposed as a precautionary measure in view of the weather forecast and the safety of pilgrims. The yatra remained suspended from the afternoon of September 26 until September 27, with authorities closely monitoring weather conditions in the pilgrimage areas.
While the overall pilgrimage has restarted, the situation on the Kedarnath trekking route remains a matter of concern. Repair and strengthening work is currently underway on a section of the route near Chirbasa, where heavy rainfall caused damage through the accumulation of debris and boulders.
The affected stretch is located around two-and-a-half kilometres above Gaurikund, one of the key points on the traditional route to Kedarnath Dham. Due to the damage, movement through this particular section has been completely stopped for the time being. Officials are undertaking restoration work to strengthen the route and make it safe for pilgrims.
Despite the closure of the affected trekking section, pilgrims travelling to Kedarnath continue to have access through helicopter services. The administration is maintaining arrangements to ensure that devotees can undertake the pilgrimage while safety measures remain in place.
Officials have also urged pilgrims to remain alert about changing weather conditions during their journey. Pilgrims have been advised to regularly check official weather updates and strictly follow instructions issued by the local administration and police.
The resumption of the Char Dham Yatra comes as weather conditions show improvement, but authorities continue to maintain caution in view of the difficult terrain and the possibility of further rainfall. With restoration work underway on the Kedarnath route, coordination between district authorities, police and pilgrimage management agencies remains important to ensure the safety and smooth movement of devotees.
