CDS General Anil Chauhan Bids Farewell to Military Service After Over Four Decades of Distinguished Service

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan on Saturday bid an emotional farewell to military service after receiving a ceremonial Tri-Services Guard of Honour at the National War Memorial in New Delhi. The ceremony marked the conclusion of an illustrious military career spanning more than four decades, during which he served in several key operational, command and strategic roles.

The farewell ceremony began with General Chauhan laying a wreath at the National War Memorial to pay homage to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation. The solemn tribute was followed by a ceremonial Guard of Honour presented by personnel from the Army, Navy and Air Force, symbolizing the highest military respect accorded to the country's senior-most military officer.

Speaking on the occasion, General Chauhan described the moment as both emotional and fulfilling. He said it was a matter of immense honour to superannuate while receiving a Tri-Services Guard of Honour, a rare distinction that reflects the trust and confidence reposed in him throughout his career.

Reflecting on his long journey in uniform, General Chauhan said his tenure had been deeply satisfying and rewarding. Commissioned into the Indian Army in 1981, General Chauhan devoted more than 40 years to the service of the country. Over the course of his distinguished career, he held several important command and staff appointments across diverse operational environments. His leadership was instrumental in shaping military preparedness, strategic planning and jointness among the three armed services.

As Chief of Defence Staff, General Chauhan played a crucial role in advancing military reforms and enhancing coordination among the Army, Navy and Air Force. His tenure witnessed significant efforts aimed at fostering integrated theatre commands, improving interoperability and strengthening India's overall defence posture in an increasingly complex security environment.

General Chauhan's exemplary service has been recognized through numerous prestigious military decorations. He is a recipient of the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), Sena Medal (SM) and Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM).
