Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta received a bomb threat through email on Tuesday, prompting security agencies to initiate precautionary checks and follow established protocols, police officials said.
According to the police, the threat was received via email and the authorities immediately began taking necessary security measures. Teams are carrying out checks in accordance with the prescribed protocol to determine whether the threat poses any actual danger.
The development has raised fresh security concerns around the Delhi Assembly Speaker, who has previously received multiple threatening messages. The Assembly Secretariat and the Speaker’s office had earlier received around six to seven bomb threat emails, following which Gupta was provided enhanced security cover.
In April this year, Gupta was granted Z-category security after a series of bomb threats targeting the Delhi Assembly. Under the arrangement, he was provided round-the-clock protection by a specialised security team as well as a dedicated escort vehicle.
The latest threat comes against that backdrop and is likely to trigger a detailed security assessment of the circumstances surrounding the email, including its source and credibility.
Police officials said further details would be shared after the ongoing checks and investigation yield more information. Authorities are also expected to examine the email and trace its origin as part of the investigation.
The incident has once again highlighted the security challenges faced by public representatives and key constitutional offices in the national capital.
