BJP Delegation Attacked in Bengal's Dooars, MP Khagen Murmu Injured

A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, including a sitting Member of Parliament, was violently attacked on Monday in the Dooars region of West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district. The leaders were en route to the flood-affected area of Nagrakata to oversee relief operations when their convoy was ambushed by unidentified miscreants.

The incident has sparked a major political firestorm, with the BJP launching a scathing attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the state's law and order situation.

MP Assaulted, Vehicles Vandalised

According to reports, the convoy was targeted, leading to serious injuries to Maldaha Uttar MP Khagen Murmu. Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh was also attacked during the altercation. The vehicles carrying the leaders were severely vandalised in the brazen assault.

Following the attack, both leaders were promptly admitted to a local hospital for medical treatment. The condition of MP Khagen Murmu is reported to be serious.

BJP Launches Scathing Attack on TMC

The national BJP leadership was quick to condemn the incident, directly blaming cadres of the ruling TMC for the violence. Amit Malviya, the head of the BJP's IT cell, took to social media platform X to voice the party's outrage.

In a sharply worded post, Malviya claimed, “BJP MP Khagen Murmu, a respected tribal leader and two-time MP from North Malda, was attacked by TMC goons while on his way to Nagrakata in Jalpaiguri’s Dooars region to help with relief and rescue efforts after devastating rains, floods, and landslides.”

He rebuked West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, contrasting the situation on the ground with her public engagements. “While Mamata Banerjee dances at her Kolkata Carnival, the TMC and state administration are missing in action. Those actually helping the people, BJP leaders and karyakartas, are being attacked for doing relief work,” he added.

Malviya’s post concluded with a stark condemnation of the state's governance: “This is TMC’s Bengal, where cruelty rules and compassion is punished.”
