The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday released its list of candidates for the 2026 Rajya Sabha biennial elections and the by-election in Odisha. The names were approved by the party's Central Election Committee, according to an official press release issued from the BJP headquarters in New Delhi.

The announcement covers Rajya Sabha seats from Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur and Rajasthan, along with the by-election for a Rajya Sabha seat from Odisha.

For Arunachal Pradesh, the BJP has nominated Shri Tai Tagak as its candidate.

In Gujarat, the party has fielded four candidates: Shri Rajubhai Shukla, Shri Mukeshbhai Rathwa, Shri Mansingh Parmar, and Shri Jitendra Meghjibhai Kanzariya. Gujarat is among the states where multiple Rajya Sabha seats are due for election this year.

From Madhya Pradesh, the BJP has nominated Shri Tarun Chugh, a senior party leader and national office-bearer, along with Shri Rajneesh Agrawal.

For Manipur, the party has selected Smt. A. Sharda Devi as its candidate.

In Rajasthan, the BJP has announced Smt. (Dr.) Alka Gurjar and Dr. Satish Poonia as its nominees for the Upper House elections. Dr. Poonia is a prominent BJP leader in Rajasthan and has previously served as the state party president.

The party also declared Shri Debashish Samantaray as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha by-election in Odisha.

The Rajya Sabha elections are significant for determining the composition of the Upper House of Parliament. With several seats falling vacant due to the completion of members' terms, political parties have been finalizing their candidates to strengthen their representation in the House.
