The flood situation in Bihar continues to remain serious as water levels in several major rivers, including the Ganga, Gandak and Kosi, rise steadily, affecting large parts of the state. Flooding has so far impacted 16 districts, while authorities have identified 14 districts, including the state capital Patna, where the situation remains particularly critical.
According to the Water Resources Department, the Ganga at Patna is currently flowing nearly two metres above the prescribed danger mark, raising concerns over further deterioration in the coming days. The department has warned that a new highest flood level could potentially be recorded at the Gandhi Ghat gauge site.
The anticipated rise in the Ganga's water level could put additional pressure on the river's flow areas, particularly the low-lying diara regions. These areas are especially vulnerable to flooding as rising river levels can inundate agricultural land, settlements and connecting roads, potentially disrupting normal life.
The continuing rise of the Ganga, Gandak and Kosi has prompted authorities to step up preparedness and closely monitor vulnerable locations. The Water Resources Department has directed the concerned district administrations to undertake all necessary precautionary measures in view of the prevailing flood conditions.

With the possibility of the Ganga reaching a new record flood level at Gandhi Ghat, continued monitoring of embankments, river channels and vulnerable settlements remains a key priority.
