Bihar Elections Conclude with Record-Breaking 67.14% Voter Turnout in Final Phase

The curtain fell on the high-stakes Bihar Assembly elections on Tuesday, with the final phase witnessing a historic voter participation rate of 67.14%—the highest ever recorded for this stage of polling in the state. The robust turnout, particularly in the Seemanchal and Kosi regions, has set a vibrant and competitive conclusion to a fiercely contested electoral battle.

Leading the charge in this democratic festival was the Kishanganj district, which recorded an impressive 76.26% voter turnout. It was closely followed by its neighbors, with Katihar at 75.23% and Purnia at 73.79%. Supaul (70.69%) and Purvi Champaran (69.02%) also demonstrated strong participation, underscoring a keen sense of civic engagement among the electorate.

According to data from the Election Commission of India’s Voter Turnout app, the enthusiasm was widespread. Districts like Araria (67.79%), Bhagalpur (66.03%), Gaya (67.50%), and Jamui (67.81%) reported solid numbers, while Aurangabad (64.48%) also saw significant footfall at polling booths. Some constituencies, including Rohtas, Madhubani, and Sitamarhi, recorded a relatively more moderate but still substantial turnout, ranging between 60% and 65%.

This second and final phase was arguably the most critical, as it will decide the political fate of 12 ministers from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's cabinet. Key constituencies were under the spotlight, with several JD(U) heavyweights facing the electorate's verdict. Among them are Vijendra Yadav from Supaul (69.72%), Lesi Singh from Dhamdaha (74.20%), Jayant Kushwaha from Amarpur, and Mohammad Jama Khan from Chainpur. The results in these seats are pivotal for the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
