In a daring move, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has launched an attack on Pakistan's second largest naval air station. According to reports, this assault was carried out by the Majid Brigade of the BLA. Balochistan Post suggests that BLA insurgents infiltrated the PNAS Siddique Naval Base located in Turbat and initiated multiple explosions within the premises. Sounds of gunfire and blasts were heard near the naval base until late at night.
PNAS Siddique is known as Pakistan's second-largest naval base, purportedly housing the country's modern naval arsenal. The attack reportedly began on Monday night and sporadic gunfire continues to be heard. Pakistani agencies claim to have thwarted the assault, although reports from a BLA spokesperson suggest significant damage inflicted upon the base.
Awaiting an official statement from the Pakistani government, emergency measures have been declared in all hospitals of Turbat, with doctors being summoned amidst the ongoing situation.
This attack marks the second assault this week by the BLA's Majid Brigade in Turbat and the third this year. Earlier on January 29, the BLA targeted Pakistani Army's intelligence headquarters in Gwadar. Similarly, on March 20, an attack on the Gwadar Port Authority complex resulted in the deaths of two Pakistani soldiers and eight militants. Security sources, on condition of anonymity, revealed that four militants have been neutralized in Monday night's attacks in Turbat. However, reports of explosions at the naval air base were also heard on Tuesday morning.
The Baloch Liberation Army, advocating for Balochistan's independence from Pakistan, has been engaged in a protracted conflict with Pakistani security forces for years. The recent string of attacks underscores the ongoing volatility in the region and the persistent challenges faced by the Pakistani authorities in addressing the grievances of Baloch separatist groups. As the situation unfolds, concerns over escalating violence and its implications for regional stability continue to loom large.
