Aban, the youngest son of slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, died in a road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi on Thursday, police officials said.
According to authorities, Aban was travelling from Prayagraj to Jhansi to meet his brother, who is currently lodged in jail, when the accident took place. He was reportedly travelling in a white Hyundai Creta along with his friend, identified as Sonu.
Police said the vehicle allegedly lost control and crashed into a road divider. The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in the deaths of both Aban and Sonu on the spot. Preliminary findings suggest that the car was moving at high speed at the time of the accident.
Soon after receiving information about the incident, local police teams reached the spot and initiated rescue and investigation efforts. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death and gather further evidence related to the crash.
Officials said an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the accident, including factors such as speed, road conditions and possible mechanical issues with the vehicle. Authorities are also examining whether any other elements may have contributed to the mishap.
The death of Aban has once again brought attention to the family of Atiq Ahmed, a controversial figure in Uttar Pradesh politics and crime, who was killed in April 2023 along with his brother Ashraf while under police escort in Prayagraj.
Police said further details regarding the incident are awaited, and a comprehensive report will be prepared after the completion of the investigation and post-mortem procedures.
