Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday chaired a high-level meeting in New Delhi to review the security arrangements and overall preparedness for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Yatra, one of the most significant annual Hindu pilgrimages in the country.
The meeting was attended by top security and administrative officials, including Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and the Directors General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
During the review, the Union Home Minister assessed the security framework, logistics, disaster management preparedness, and coordination among various agencies involved in ensuring the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage. Officials briefed Shah on measures being taken to provide a safe and seamless experience for devotees visiting the holy cave shrine in the Himalayas.
Special emphasis was laid on strengthening security along the pilgrimage routes, improving surveillance mechanisms, and ensuring effective deployment of security personnel. The meeting also reviewed arrangements related to medical facilities, transportation, communication systems, and emergency response mechanisms.
The Shri Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to commence on July 3 and conclude on August 28. Every year, lakhs of devotees undertake the pilgrimage to seek blessings at the sacred Amarnath Cave Shrine, which houses the naturally formed ice Shivling.
The Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir administration are working in close coordination to ensure that all necessary arrangements are in place before the commencement of the pilgrimage. Authorities have expressed confidence that comprehensive security measures and improved infrastructure will facilitate a safe and successful Yatra this year.
The review meeting underscores the government's commitment to ensuring the safety, security, and convenience of pilgrims participating in the annual religious journey.
