Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday launched a sharp political attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) while addressing a rally in Kolkata, urging voters to cast their ballots “without fear” and bring about a political change in West Bengal.
Addressing a gathering in the city, Shah said, “This time no one should fear; no goon can stop the voters of Bengal. Everyone must vote without fear to uproot and throw TMC into the Bay of Bengal.” His remarks come amid heightened political activity ahead of key electoral contests in the state.
Shah asserted that a political shift is imminent in West Bengal and directly appealed to voters in the Bhabanipur assembly constituency. “There will be a change in Bengal. But do you want a change in Bhabanipur or not? I have come here to seek your support for our candidate Suvendu Adhikari,” he said.
The Union Home Minister also alleged a deteriorating law and order situation in the state, claiming that incidents such as bomb attacks and firing are reported almost daily. He maintained that the demand for change extends beyond the state at large to Bhabanipur, the constituency associated with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Earlier in the day, Shah took part in a roadshow alongside Adhikari in Bhabanipur, marking the BJP’s show of strength in the high-profile constituency. The roadshow passed through several parts of the area before concluding near the Survey Building, where Adhikari is set to file his nomination papers.
According to party sources, Shah accompanied Adhikari on foot for the final stretch leading to the nomination centre, underscoring the importance the party is placing on the Bhabanipur contest. BJP leaders indicated that Shah’s presence is part of a broader campaign strategy, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expected to campaign in the constituency in the coming days.
The BJP’s intensified focus on Bhabanipur signals a high-stakes political battle, with both sides gearing up for a closely watched electoral contest in the heart of Kolkata.
