Akhilesh Yadav Promises ₹40,000 Annual Aid for Women if SP Returns to Power in UP

Akhilesh Yadav, chief of the Samajwadi Party, has announced that underprivileged women in Uttar Pradesh would receive ₹40,000 annually if his party forms the government in the 2027 Assembly elections. The announcement was made during an interaction at the party office in Lucknow, where he outlined a broader vision focused on women’s empowerment and social welfare.

Focus on Women Empowerment

Highlighting the importance of women in society, Akhilesh Yadav said that empowering women is essential for the overall development of the state. He emphasized that financial independence plays a key role in improving the quality of life for women, particularly those from economically weaker sections.

As part of this vision, he promised to revive the Samajwadi Party’s pension scheme, under which eligible women would receive ₹40,000 annually. He also spoke about restarting earlier welfare initiatives, including the Rani Lakshmibai initiative, aimed at supporting and honouring women.

In addition, Yadav announced plans to introduce new programmes that would focus on social and economic equality. He stressed that such initiatives would not only uplift women but also contribute to shaping a more balanced and progressive society in Uttar Pradesh.

Criticism of Law and Order Situation

During the interaction, Yadav sharply criticised the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government over the state’s law and order situation. He alleged that crime is on the rise and that women, in particular, do not feel safe.

According to him, the system is being misused for political purposes, and he argued that a change in government is necessary to improve the situation. He also cited recent crime incidents to support his claims, though he did not go into specific details.

Concerns Over Infrastructure Projects

Yadav also raised concerns about infrastructure development, specifically targeting the Green Corridor project in Lucknow. He claimed that the project lacks proper planning and fails to adequately consider pedestrian safety.

He argued that the funds allocated for such projects could be better utilised to construct wider and more efficient roads, ensuring both safety and convenience for the public.

Remarks on West Bengal Elections

Commenting on the political situation in West Bengal, Yadav expressed confidence in Mamata Banerjee’s leadership. He said that despite challenges and opposition efforts, public support remains strong and she is likely to return to power in the upcoming elections.
