In a significant bureaucratic overhaul, the Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has transferred 20 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, introducing sweeping changes across several key departments. The late-night transfer order reshuffles senior officials in revenue, medical education, labour, culture, power distribution, geology and mining, and rural development, reflecting the government's continued focus on strengthening governance and administrative efficiency.Among the prominent appointments, Shubha Verma, who was serving as Secretary in the Revenue Department, has been appointed as the new Labour Commissioner of Uttar Pradesh. The move is seen as part of the state's effort to streamline labour administration and improve policy implementation.
In another key change, Dr Sarika Mohan, who was serving as Director General of Medical Education and Secretary of the Medical Education Department, has been assigned the additional responsibility of Director General, Registration, Uttar Pradesh. She will continue to play a pivotal role in overseeing the state's medical education framework while handling the registration department.
Meanwhile, Neha Sharma, previously serving as Director General, Registration, has been appointed as the new Director General of Medical Education. She has also been entrusted with the charge of Secretary, Medical Education Department, giving her a central role in managing one of the state's most critical sectors.
The reshuffle also impacts rural development, with Arun Kumar, formerly Additional Director in the Geology and Mining Department, appointed as the new Mission Director of the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission. The assignment places him at the helm of one of the state's flagship programmes focused on rural empowerment and livelihood generation.
Several other departments have also witnessed significant changes. J Reema, Special Secretary in the Geology and Mining Department, has been given the additional charge of Additional Director, Geology and Mining, while continuing in her existing role.
Deepa Ranjan, who was serving as Mission Director of the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission, has been transferred as Special Secretary in the Culture Department, marking a shift from rural development to cultural administration.
At the same time, Sanjay Kumar Singh-I has been relieved of his responsibilities as Special Secretary in the Culture Department. He will continue as Director of Charitable Affairs and has also been assigned the additional charge of Director, Culture.
The government has also appointed Riya Kejriwal, Managing Director of Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (MVVNL), as Special Secretary in the Child Development and Nutrition Department, reinforcing the department's administrative leadership.
In another important appointment, Sandeep Bhagia, who was serving as Additional Commissioner of State Tax in Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad-II, has been named the new Managing Director of Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited. His appointment is expected to strengthen the operational and administrative functioning of the state-run power distribution utility.
The transfer of IAS officers is part of the Uttar Pradesh government's routine administrative exercise aimed at enhancing governance, improving departmental coordination, and ensuring effective implementation of government policies. Such periodic reshuffles enable the administration to deploy experienced officers in departments requiring focused attention while aligning bureaucratic leadership with evolving governance priorities.
The latest reshuffle underscores the Yogi Adityanath government's continued emphasis on administrative efficiency and accountability as it seeks to strengthen service delivery across key sectors in the state.
