The government on Wednesday assured citizens that domestic LPG supplies remain stable and uninterrupted across the country, despite the evolving geopolitical situation in West Asia.
Addressing an inter-ministerial briefing in the national capital, Petroleum Secretary Sujata Sharma stated that there has been no shortage or “dry-out” reported at LPG distributorships nationwide. She highlighted that both online booking systems and delivery authentication code-based supply mechanisms are functioning efficiently, with usage levels reaching an all-time high.
Providing an update on commercial LPG availability, Sharma said supplies have recovered to around 70 percent capacity. In April alone, over 1.84 lakh tonnes of commercial LPG were sold across the country, including more than 8,800 tonnes recorded in a single day recently. She also noted a significant surge in the distribution of smaller 5 kg cylinders, with daily sales nearly doubling to approximately 73,000 units.
Meanwhile, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Mukesh Mangal confirmed that operations at all Indian ports are proceeding normally, with no congestion reported. He assured that Indian seafarers operating in sensitive regions remain safe, and no incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels have been reported in the past 24 hours.
Mangal further informed that under the supervision of the Directorate General of Shipping, authorities have successfully facilitated the safe return of 2,829 Indian nationals from the region.
He also noted that Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal recently chaired a high-level review meeting involving officials from key ministries, including Petroleum and Natural Gas, Fertilizers, and the Directorate General of Foreign Trade. The meeting focused on ensuring the smooth flow of maritime trade, particularly through the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz.
The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining uninterrupted energy supplies and seamless shipping operations, even as it closely monitors developments in the region.
