Nalanda’s Revival Signals Global Intellectual Renaissance: President Droupadi Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday underscored the global significance of the revival of Nalanda University, stating that its restoration marks not just a milestone for Bihar or India, but the dawn of a broader intellectual and cultural renaissance for the world.

Addressing the second convocation ceremony of the university, the President said Nalanda stands as a symbol of shared human heritage and collective progress. She highlighted that the institution has been developed as a Centre of International Excellence with the cooperation of East Asia Summit member nations, reflecting a deep commitment to global collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Emphasising the university’s inclusive vision, President Murmu praised its efforts to integrate the local community into its academic and institutional framework. She expressed confidence that Nalanda University would play a crucial role in advancing India’s long-term developmental aspirations, particularly the goal of achieving a ‘Developed India’ by 2047.

During the ceremony, the President conferred degrees and academic honours upon students representing 31 countries, reinforcing the university’s international character. She also inaugurated the Centre for South-East Asian Studies on the campus, aimed at strengthening regional academic engagement and research.

In addition, President Murmu inaugurated the ‘Vishwamitralaya’ Auditorium, a state-of-the-art facility with a seating capacity of 2,000, expected to host major academic and cultural events.

The event was also addressed by Syed Ata Hasnain and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, both of whom echoed the importance of Nalanda’s revival in enhancing India’s global academic footprint and fostering international cooperation.
