In UP, Indian Oil to set up 2600 charging points, spreading its network of charging stations on expressways and highways

As Electric Vehicle (EV) adoption continues to surge in India, there is a growing emphasis on providing charging infrastructure alongside traditional fueling facilities. Recognizing the increasing number of vehicles on the roads, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) is set to install approximately 2600 charging points in the upcoming financial year, with nearly 200 of them being fast-charging stations.

These fast-charging stations will operate at 20 kilowatts, capable of charging vehicles in around 50 minutes. Once charged, vehicles will be able to travel approximately 250-300 kilometers. Indian Oil's plan extends to installing around 2600 stations by 2026, indicating a proactive approach to meet the rising demand for EV charging infrastructure.

The timely establishment of these charging points is expected to alleviate concerns regarding charging availability on roads. With close to 5 million electric vehicles already registered in the country, many automotive companies have shifted their focus towards producing electric vehicles. The influx of EVs on roads necessitates the expansion of charging infrastructure.

Indian Oil's initiative aims to make charging facilities available at its petrol pumps in every district. By integrating charging capabilities into existing fuel stations, the need for separate charging stations is minimized. This approach not only leverages existing infrastructure but also ensures widespread accessibility of charging facilities.

Over the next couple of years, Indian Oil plans to cover all expressways and highways with charging stations. This strategic placement will facilitate long-distance travel for electric vehicle owners, further promoting the adoption of EVs across the country.
